Yo Peter, this is a response to the article you sent me: http://townhall.com/columnists/WalterEWilliams/2009/04/01/our_problem_is_immorality

Iunno man, this guy has explained shit well, he makes sense, but his arguments are too wild. You don’t compare the re-distribution system to theft, like the theft of breaking the norm (like stealing a bike), A norm is created in accordance to what society finds rational as a whole, when these societal bonds are broken, people who brake them are seen as deviant. Now, this has NOTHING to do with the re-distributive system. According to john Rawls, the founding father of liberalism, the redistributive system is an essential security that is enacted to aid those who have hit rock bottom, in order to provide an “equal starting line” for all citizens in terms of resources. And when referring to the morality issue, you cannot compare the degree of redistribution to slavery. The political ideology of morality has a lot to do with Robert Nozick’s view upon politics, he argued that only morality defines politics(so for example, things like driving on the right side of the road should not be mandated by the government because it has nothing to do with morals, but causing harm to another is and should be mandated) politics should not get involved outside of that. He also did mention that politics is legitimate only when it provides: life plan, security and property which when rationally applying this view, one can approve of the redistributive system playing a security role in society. So when looking back to the argument about comparing slavery to the redistribution system, slavery is immoral and redistribution is moral. To understand these ideologies which are the basis of politics, one must see that it is the societal whole which votes in their leaders in a democracy such as the United States, which votes directly. This clearly pertaining that some ideologies are voted in at times of need; this explains why Canada has a centre liberal party for almost 6o years straight and in the last 8 years has gone more right-centre, progressive conservative. Times have changed, there are more wealthy people out there, more chances there will be a conservative(corporate based) government voted in, but when there are people who are unsure of future financial outcomes, such as the United States is currently undergoing, there will be less votes towards the business dominant government due to less votes.

Ill tell you the Dr or Prof who wrote this might be smart in other areas, but not in political ideology.
